Pinnacle Publishing has just completed
publica-
tion of the second series of reports called
The Pros
Talk Fox
, and is offering selected volumes at $29
each. These are excellent sources of information
by first rate authors, and are well worth the price if
the topic matches your interests. For example,
Melissa Dunn’s report on SQL is one of the best
treatments I have seen. I will have the list of topics
at the User Meeting. You can order at (800) 231-
1293.
Mac Rubel, nationally known writer and speaker on
FoxPro, has announced the availability of up-
graded versions of his two packages of application
development tools
-
Power Developers Library
and
Development Debugger.
He is offering them at
substantial discounts to user group members
-
$245 for the pair. I will have brochures at the user
meeting. You can order direct from Mac at (212)
972-2330.
Neon Software is releasing the Windows version
of
FoxExpress
with many improvements over the
DOS version that Mike Feltman showed us in one
of our earlier meetings. Brochures with product
details are available at the user meeting.

Tom,
I agree with most of your points and, personally, only
have two reservations. The first is, I don’t want to have
to put the time and money into it but if I do, I do. The
second is, it will only prove the certified know some-
thing about the mechanics of FoxPro and will prove
nothing about knowledge of how to appropriately use
it in a business solution (which is the primary reason
underlying most of the need for FoxPro programming).
I have watched MSFT market Access over FoxPro and
have firsthand experience of some customers biting
the MSFT marketing line and selecting Access where
it was less appropriate than FoxPro. With enough of
that experience in hand, I’m dubious if it will have any
greater net value to MSFT customers.
But, if it brings me business, as I suspect in will over
time from some who have selected Access
innappropnately, I don’t really mind. It can be profit-
able to clean up other's messes.
XBASE
....
GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS
First, the bad news. XPro has withdrawn from the
ANSII Xbase standards committee. The costs of
membership and attendance were far more than than I
could personally justify. Unfortunately, XPro is not the
first to withdraw for this reason. The good news is that
I will continue to monitor the proceedings and that they
are on the right track to produce an actual ANSII
standard within the not to distant future. This standard
is what we, as developers, want in order to help
