so big that it is like a “point 0” release and is therefore cause for hesitation and caution. Although bugs are certain to appear, he expects them at the edges of the product that have not yet been explored. He believes the engine and core elements are sound enough to support mission critical apps with Visual FoxPro right now, and in fact his company is doing so with several clients.
George kept going at full speed for 2 hours and exhausted himself and the questions from the audience. He probably crashed shortly thereafter since he had just finished teaching the Micro Endeavors training seminar for two full days before arriving at our meeting.
I hope he saved enough energy to finish his Visual FoxPro book soon. In the early FoxBase days he was the leading (only?) book author, and I think his FoxPro 2.5 book, Creating FoxPro Applications, is the best of the bunch. With the wealth of ideas we heard in this session, I expect the trend to continue.

GenScrnX Hot Tip
(Con't from page 7)
At the time GroupWin is called, the current window is ACTIVATED but is not visible. The old window is visible but it isn’t the active window. The first line within the IF statement moves the current window to the same location as the old window. Both windows are now stacked. The second line reactivates the old window. Why? You would get screen flicker otherwise. The third line makes the current window visible but since it’s underneath the old window you can’t see
it. The last line releases the old window, leaving the current window. (Upside: Best of all worlds. Downside: It takes longer to explain than it is to executecg>.)
The GroupWin procedure is completely compatible with the WINMOVE driver.

robust apps in VFP will probably not be appearing until about that time. Developers will need a tool to cover their bases and speed up development time while experiencing the substantial learning curve of VFP. FEX can lighten the load while paying for itself in time saved. Secondly, Neon will be releasing a “visual” version of this piece shortly after VFP appears in stores that will be Codebook-compliant and will once again save development time by enabling the developer to access already-established class libraries. So it’s a win-win situation.

We’ve come up with an easy way to submit article$ to the
LA
Fox Developer Newsletter
one that ha been overlooked for a long time.
You can submit your articles to either Chuck Williams
(72330,2326) or Barry Lee (72723,3422) on
Compuserve.
These articles can be on any FoxPro-related topic, whether it concerns a new technique you’ve discovered, a certain development technique you may favor over others, book reviews, etc.
The quality of this newsletter really depends on the members that support it, not just read it. And I think we’d all be surprised by the useful information that could be circulated around the membership.
