low priced workstations, but Jeff is now working with Windows,
since the Pentium brings speed into a useful range.
He has now extended the application to provide reports which
summarize patient data in several ways, in both tabular and
graphic form. The user can drill down from a summary to get
increased detail, just by clicking on the data elements. The
result is similar to the screen views and data entry situation -
users can get data structured in several useful ways, quickly
and easily, without reading a manual or going to class.
This is a classic application - it signifies what application devel-
opment is all about and illustrates the flexibility offered by
FoxPro when placed in the hands of a talented developer. Jeff
credits discussions with Ken Levy for the basic implementation
ideas, but it also helps to be an excellent programmer and a
former art director.

Announcements
Micro Endeavors Inc has announced a nationwide training tour
for Visual FoxPro developers. They offer a two day seminar,
with the first day concentrating on strategic issues such as
client-server, object orientation, OLE2, integration with Office
products, Rapid Systems Development, etc. The second day will
focus on programming topics including data dictionary, form
design, visual classes, project designer, grid controls, and event
driven apps. The instructors include George Goley, one of the
foremost developers, speakers, and writers in the FoxPro
community since its beginnings, and Melissa Dunn, also a
leading FoxPro author, speaker, and trainer - they don’t come
any better than this I The tour hits Los Angeles on May 8 and 9.
The price is $250 per day with several discount options. You
can register at 800 331-9434.

The annual dDay Fair is happening again this year. This is a
major opportunity for local database oriented folks to meet and
listen to several industry leaders, all in one convenient place,
without the hassle and the price of most database conferences.
See the detailed flyer later in this newsletter.

Microsoft will present their annual Tech-Ed Conference in New
Orleans from March 27 through 31. This is another conference
“for computer professionals who design, develop, integrate, or
support” Microsoft based solutions. Although many of the
FoxPro Devcon presentations are repeated at this conference,
the scope is broader and the attendance is larger than Devcon.
There are over 300 technical sessions covering 4 broad tracks:
Backoffice, Development Tools, Office, and Windows Technolo-
gies, with sessions on Windows 95, OLE, Multimedia, and
MA P1. I have a brochure with a listing of session titles. The
price is $1195. To register, call 800 433-9996.
