Once More with Feeling...
(Ed. Note: The LA Fox
Board
of
Directors
met on Thursday, Dec. 4th, 1997, at Denny’s on PCH. The Board is strictly a volunteerorganiz at ion responsible for policies and general direction of LA Fox. The Board meets 2-3 times per year and any current member (paid-up) may attend and/or volunteer their seivices to be on the Board. What follows is the outcome of that meeting.]
MembershiD Period/Payment of Dues
1. Effective January 1, 1998, annual dues to LA Fox will be $48. These membership fees will become due and payable from each member of the group at the January meeting, rather than the past practice of renewing membership during the “anniversary” month of membership. If you won’t be able to attend the January meeting, and wish to remain a member-in-good- standing, you should mail your dues to Twila Miller, 1601 North Sepulveda Blvd. -#191, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266. (The membership fees cover the cost of the meeting room at the Torrance Airport
-
which has doubled in the last year, the cost of publishing the newsletter
-
which has increased over 30% in the last year, transportation and/or lodging for any of our guest speakers who travel to Los Apgeles to speak to the group, as well as other miscellaneous expenses incurred in running the group.)
2. The membership period will cover from January 1 to December 31 of the current year.
3. If a person joins LA Fox after January 1 that person’s dyes will be pro-rated based on when iathe year the person joins. In other wQrds, if a person joins in July of 1998, the amount of the dueswould be 1/2 of regularmembership, or$24. Afterthat, the person’s dues would become payable on January 1 of the following year.
4. If a person joined LA Fox during 1997, that person’s dues for
1998 will also be due and payable at the January meeting on a
pro-rated basis depending on when in the year the person
joined. (For example, if a person joined the group in October of
1997, the total amount due at the January ‘98 meeting would be
1/4 of 1998’s membership fee, or $12, since under the previous
policy, that person’s dues would have expired in October’98.)
Dues would then be payable every January 1 after that.
Visitor Fees
Effective January 1, all visitors will be charged a visitor fee of
$5.00 per meeting. (See also, “Badges”.)
Newsletters
Effective January 1, newsletters will no longer be passed out at meetings and they will no longer be sent to non-current members. So, after January’s meeting, if your membership isn’t current, you’ll no longer be receiving the newsletter.
Raffles
|
Effective January 1, only paid-up members and paying visitors will be eligible to participate in raffles.
Badges
Effective Januaryl
,
the use of badges will be implemented as a controlling mechanism for the above policies. Each member will have a badge with his name on it. (“Generic” badges will be available for visitors.) The badges, at each member’s option, will become the property ofthe member or will be returned at the end of each meeting to a “badge box” for retreival at the next meeting. Should a member decide to take the badge home after the meeting, it will be that member’s responsibility to have it for the next meeting. Visitor badges will be available at each meeting for $5 and will include the current month’s newsletter. These badges will also determine the eligibility of a member or visitor for any raffle prizes.

It Can’t Get Any Easier.......
We’ve come up with an easy way to submit articles to the
LA
Fox
Developer Newsletter
one that has been overlooked for a long time.
You can submit your articles to Barry Lee at CIS# 72723,3422 on Compuserve, or
brlee@earthlink.net.
These articles can be on any FoxPro-related topic, whether it concerns a new technique you’ve discovered, a certain development technique you may favor over others, book reviews, etc. Editor reserves the right to edit or offer constructive comments’ concerning submitted articles and accepted articles shall be considered to be in the public domain.
The quality of this newsletter really depends on the members that support it, not just read it. And I think we’d all be surprised by the useful information that could be circulated around the membership.
