LA Fox Boot Camp
December 2
LA Fox is sponsoring a “boot camp” on December 2, 2000. The
camp is designed to take your existing skills (whether they’re
FPW or VFP) and give them a shot in the arm. If you haven’t
signed up for the Boot Camp and still wish to, we have included
a registration form in this issue of The Developer.

“Show Me The Code” - “How To” session covering all the
basics of rapidly building Windows applications using Visual
FoxPro

This
session is geared toward working programmers.
Programmers with an understanding of FoxPro 2.6 will get
an eye opening look at the features new to Visual FoxPro.
Programmers already working with Visual FoxPro will gain
an enhanced understanding of how to simplify development
using Visual FoxPro’s object orientation and how to har-
ness the awesome power of Visual FoxPro’s database
features.

Programmers coming from another language will understand
what Visual FoxPro is and how to use it for rapid database
development.

The session format will be as follows:

Review database features and use Rules, Triggers, and
Stored Procedures to build some smarts into a database.

Build a smart form that knows how to save, cancel, delete,
etc.

Re-use the smart form as a re-usable base class and
discuss both the joys and pitfalls of object oriented develop-
ment.

Look at Visual FoxPro Views and how to use them for easy
parent-child database development.
At LA Fox

November 20, 2000, 7:30 PM.. Drew Speedie. Drew, the
mastermind behind Visual MaxFrame Professional, will be
speaking on Visual MaxFrame Professional, as well as typical
client-server data entry forms.

December 18, 2000, 7:30 PM. The Annual LA Fox Christ-
mas Party. It’s that time of the year again. Come join us for
merriment, good times, LA Fox fellowship, and tasty treats.
And what would the Christmas party be without The White
Elephant Gift Exchange? So come prepared for a good time.
[Ed. Note: The idea behind the White Elephant Gift Exchange
is to bring a wrapped “something” that is no longer useful to you
but might be to someone else <g>. Last year, “lucky” recipients
received such valuable gifts as “cheesy” romance novels,
copies of “useful” computer books (The Complete DOS 5.0
Reference, Understanding Lotus v2. 01, WordPerfect 4.2, etc.),
hardware (2400-baud modems, etc.), stocking stuffers that
didn’t quite turn you on last Christmas, etc. It’s great fun, with
lots of laughs, and pmvides you an opportunity to pass those
white elephants along to someone “deserving” of such presents.
So, look in the back of your closets and out in the garage
I’m sure you’ll find something. It’s not mandatory that you
bring one since there’s usually plenty to go around, but it does
make it easier.] Oh yeah and Ken Levy will be here, too.
