Microsoft announced today that Microsoft Visual FoxPro 7.0 has entered Beta 2 and will ship earlier than expected. Beta 2 is a closed beta for Visual FoxPro developers who have worked closely with the Visual FoxPro team on previous beta versions of the product.

A new feature at our meetings, VFP Jump Start begins at 7:00pmThe purpose of this half hour session will be to provide information on some short topics which will be useful to our members.  This month we will be holding a brainstorming session to determine what you, the members, want to hear about in future VFP Jump Start sessions.  So, please join us from 7:00-7:30 for this discussion.  Bring topics for areas where you could use a bit of enlightening, refreshing, etc.

Jonathan Melvin, from Vision Implementers, Inc., will speak about a software framework that allows very rapid application development. The framework executes from a compact script which specifies data structures, views, and work flow. The framework allows the script to execute the final application, without requiring any screens or reports to be programmed. An example is the LA Fox on-line survey, which took one hour to create (see example).  The framework builds data entry screens and reports on the fly as they are required by the user. The current implementation of the framework is for Active Server Pages. It runs web-based applications that use a Microsoft SQL Server back end. Jon will discuss how the ideas of the framework could be reimplemented in VFP to allow rapid deployment of VFP user interfaces into VFP or remote SQL Server data tables.
