The December Meeting
Show Time !! Microsoft brought the FoxPro 3.0
Show to town and dazzled us all! Our friend Kirk
Nason from the Irvine office, and Cns Witrous from
Redmond, put on a very complete and effective
demonstration of the Beta test version to a stand-
ing room only crowd. And this was more than a
canned PowerPoint-based sales pitch. For several
hours they did a live, interactive demo of the new
features, and were very responsive to developer
oriented questions from the group. Since this was
a special preview of the product in its pre-release
form, I can’t write about content details, but I am
allowed to be excited and impressed!! I think its
okay to say that the tantalizing things we have
heard about this release, starting at last year’s
Devcon, were all very much in evidence in the
demo. If you thought FoxPro 2.0 and 2.5 were
biggies, get ready for another wave and get your
head ready for another stretch our world is
going to get a lot richer in a few months.

Our thanks to Microsoft for their time and effort to
demonstrate to our group, and for taking the risk of
showing their product before it has finished the
development cycle. This is s a good example of
how well Microsoft supports their user groups
we appreciate the great product and we appreciate
the support.

Thanks to Karl Hogquist for providing the use Of
his Microdatics training facility for the meeting, and
thanks to George Dvorak for all those helpings of
delicious Christmas Strudel to top off the meeting
is that object oriented strudel George?

Important Reminder!!
The January meeting of LA Fox, which would normally
be scheduled for Jan. 18, 1995, has been resched-
uled to Jan. 23, 1995, at 7:30 PM, due to a scheduling
conflict with DevCon. It will still be at our regular
meeting place (the Torrance Airport, 3301 Airport
Drive, in Torrance). For details on how to get there,
see the map on the back page. The meeting was
rescheduled in order to devote half of our meeting to
an open discussion on everything we saw and learned
at DevCon, while it’s still fresh in our minds. If you
don’t plan to attend DevCon, this meeting will be very
important to you, since we’ll be talking about FoxPro
3.0, or as it is now officially being called, “Visual
FoxPro”.

Speaking of Devcon....
For those members attending DevCon, LA Fox is
planning on handing out “business cards” as a promo-
tional campaign aimed at increasing our membership
and bringing attention to our group.

As some of you may know, our “official” membership
(paid-up members) increased substantially during
November and December, thanks to a little “nudge”
from the board members and a very well-timed demo
of Visual FoxPro from Microsoft. The bottom line of
this effort was to take our group from being danger-
ously close to insolvency to once again having a
healthy group with a healthy treasury.

Now that we’re healthy again, we should think about
kicking in “Phase II” - getting the word out about our
group and new recruitment. In order to facilitate this
effort, these “business cards” will be available to those
members attending DevCon and the membership-in-
