SDrina Conference ‘97 FAQs
by Barry R. Lee
>>Are there User’s Group discounts, or discounts for group

registration? <<

No.

>> Do you accept credit card payments? <<

Yes. However, the prices reflect a cash discount. Credit card users must pay the full price of $209, $235, and $259 respectively.

<<...are they [the meals] still included in the registration price? <<

Yes. Unofficially, we’ll be covering breaks and lunches. If we can at all afford it, we’ll be having continental breakfasts Saturday and Sunday, too. I’m pretty sure we’ll be doing the CBs, but we’ll have to see how registration goes.

>>What about hotels and airlines?<<

- Hotel: We have secured discounted rooms at the rate of $89.00 per room. To get this discount, you must call the LAX Westin directly at (310) 216-5858 (not their “800” number). Be sure to tell them that you are making reservations for the “MICROCOMPUTER ENGINEERING SERVICES room block”. This price will be honored 3 days prior and 3 days after the event. You will need a credit card to hold the reservation.

- Airlines: We have secured a 5% discount of any published fares on United or Delta. To get these special rates, you or your travel agent will need to call one of the following phone numbers. United’s meetings desk phone number is 1-800-521-4041. Our meeting ID Code for United is “513DA”. Delta’s meeting desk phone number is 1-800-241-6760. Our file number for Delta is

Arrivals and Departures, Part 2. On January 2, 1997, 12:45am, Calvin Hsia’s wife Pam gave birth to their new daughter, Wendy Iris Hsia. She weighed in at 7 lbs 5 oz and measured 19.5 inches. Not to be outdone, Toni Taylor-Feltman, on January 20, 1997 at 9:55pm, gave birth to William Michael “Mic” Feltman Ill. Mic weighed in at 8 lbs 10 oz and was 20.5 inches long. Says Toni, “He was born on his Grandpa’s birthday so it only seemed appropriate that he should share his name along with his birthday. We are all doing well and are even starting to

get adjusted to the lack of sleep we are getting. If you want to see what Mic looks like, he has his own little section on our web page, feel free to stop in and have a look (http:// www.foxgang.net/neon).” Now all we’re waiting for is Steven Black’s new arrival. <g>

Short Takes
Apple Computer Inc. Chairman Gilbert announced that he will
be suspending the merit bonuses of executives, including himself, until the struggling computer maker reports consistent profits. [Ed. Note: Duhhhh!!!]

Tickle Me Barbie. In an effort to clear the way for an announced merger with Tyco, manufacturer of the hugely successful Tickle Me Elmo, Mattel Inc. will be shedding many of its weaker non-core lines. Mattel shares fell $1 .625 to $25.75 on the NYSE.

Do I really need to say anything about the AOL fiasco?!?!

Samsung finally made their much-expected move to take over troubled computer manufacturer AST Research. Shareholders quickly formed a “protection committee” to monitor their interests, with many of the shareholders saying that Samsung’s offer is much too low. And while all this is going on, AST deserves a “thumbs-up” for donating several systems to local fire departments in the area. The fire authority has a web site at http:ll wvvw.ocfa.oig.

Finally, Microsoft announced that it would stop making its Windows NT operating system for computers based on the PowerPC chip, dealing the latest blow to the once-touted microprocessor. Currently, only Apple sells PowerPC computers in any substantial numbers.

It Can’t Get Any Easier.......
We’ve come up with an easy way to submit articles to the LA Fox DeveloperNewsietter one that has been overlooked for a long time.

You can submit your articles to Barry Lee at CIS# 72723,3422 on Compuserve, orbrlee@earthlink.net.

These articles can be on any FoxPro-related topic, whether it concerns a new technique you’ve discovered, a certain development technique you may favor over others, book reviews, etc. Editor reserves the right to edit or offer constructive comments concerning submitted articles and accepted articles shall be considered to be in the public domain.

The quality of this newsletter really depends on the members that support it, not just read it. And I think we’d all be surprised by the useful information that could be circulated around the membership.

So.
How ‘bout it?
