To Our Customers, Partners and Shareholders,

For 25 years, Microsoft has worked to bring the benefits of the personal computer to hundreds of millions of consumers and businesses around the world. Our efforts to develop innovative new versions of the Windows operating system and other new technologies are contributing to the growth of the Internet, the high-technology industry and the American economy.

As we look ahead to the appeals process, innovation will continue to be the No. 1 priority at Microsoft. We will continue to hire great people, listen to our customers, invest in research and development and create the next generation of great software products.

We recognize that industry leadership brings both opportunities and responsibilities. That’s why Microsoft did everything it possibly could over the past four months to try and resolve this case without the need for further litigation. Our appeal will stress a 1998 U.S. Court of Appeals decision that affirmed Microsoft’s right to build Internet capabilities into Windows to benefit consumers.

Since this case was filed
